Gravel comes from rock; rock that is broken into gravel-size pieces. How does this happen? In Uganda it doesn't occur mechanically.
If he works diligently he can fill three five-gallon buckets with gravel in 12 hours. Each bucket filled nets him about 5 cents (U.S.). He's been chipping rocks since he was 4 and now he's 10. His options are reduced to an option: continue doing what he knows.
We're struggling to teach the kids a good work ethic. There's this ugly assumption that they're (we're) entitled to comfort and leisure. It seems that the Bible talks a lot more about hard work and suffering than it does about "livin' it up".
